APEC Cyber Education Network (ACEN) was first initiated by Kim,
Dae-jung, President of Korea in APEC Seoul Forum, March 2000. In
the same year, it was endorsed as an APEC Human Resource Development
(HRD) Project at the 22nd APEC HRD Working Group Meeting in Brunei
Darussalam.
APEC Cyber Education Network (ACEN) is a worldwide project for
narrowing down the digital divide among APEC members. ACEN connects
teachers, students and researchers by encouraging and helping them
to share ICT knowledge and skills in education as well as common
educational issues.
ACEN serves all participants in the following
aspects:
- Building APEC Educational Community
- Sharing ICT knowledge and skills in education
- Improving teachers' competency in ICT
Currently, Korea Education and Research Information
Service (KERIS) implements ACEN projects in the collaboration with
Korea University Council for Social Service and with the support
of Korea Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development.
To meet the above ACEN objectives, KERIS concentrates following
activities.
- Organizing ACEN Human Network such as Teacher Reporters, Advisory
Board, and Steering Committee in each APEC economy
- Publishing ACEN Web-magazine (Webzine) regularly
- Managing offline volunteer activities including Youth Internet
Volunteer (YIV) and Volunteer Translator
- Providing Online Teacher Training Programs
Through these activities, ACEN will create online and offline learning
community, facilitate ICT knowledge sharing and consulting activities
and help schoolteachers improve their ICT skills. Eventually, ACEN
is expected to a fine mechanism to narrow down the digital divide
in APEC region.
