|Title Communicative Competence through Cultural Awareness

|Purpose

1. To improve the language skills of the students by studying the content in English
2. To teach factual information about the culture of English-speaking countries for promotion of cross-cultural understanding
3. To improve the computer skills

|Expected Results

The goals of this project is to teach the cultures in English to enhance students¡¯ English language ability as well as provide information to students in order to develop inter-cultural awareness and to prepare them to become world citizens.
It may enable the students to move beyond the level of cultural stereotyping and go to the level of comprehension of cultural norms and situations, not just in the target culture but in their native culture as well, the course has achieved one accomplishment at least producing cross-culturally sensitive individuals.
Cultural understating is needed in the creation of world peace and economic cooperation. Soh hoped, in his research in 1997, that the culture education be adopted not only his research at the college level but also in corporations and industries where the real need for effective cross-cultural communication exists. He said that the English language classroom can render on to society not only linguistically competent students but also better-prepared students for citizenship in a global age. (Soh, 1997)
